Black Freedom Seekers - Canfield Roots
This documentary series shares the untold stories of some of the descendants of freedom seekers who settled in Canfield, Ontario and serves as a vital platform for honoring and representing the ancestors of the Canfield families. In the mid 1800s Black freedom seekers journeyed from the United States north to Canada. They settled across southern Ontario and built homes, raised their families and created a legacy for their descendants. Many of these families lived in the small village of Canfield, in Ontario, not far from the Grand River. An abandoned cemetery is all that remains of these settlers today. This award-winning documentary series shares the untold stories of the descendants of these Black freedom seekers and draws attention to the historical significance of the small abandoned cemetery in Haldimand County. It plays a crucial role in amplifying the voices of Canfield family ancestors.
