Taken from the Armed Forces Archival program, "True Glory," this remarkable epic depicts graphically the savagery of massive armies locked in bitter battle. It also includes an 8th A. F. Bomber crippled by Luftwaffe and a semi-conscious pilot's, struggle home. True Glory, the World War II documentary of 1945, introduced by General Eisenhower. This joint US/British Government film surveyed the entire campaign in Western Europe from just before D-Day to the surrender of Germany in May 1945. Commissioned by General Eisenhower to record the progress of "Operation Overlord," the invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe in 1944 by Allied troops, the film took an enormous toll on all who worked on it. Of the 1,400 cameramen involved, 32 were killed in action, 16 were reported missing, and more than 100 were wounded.
