Oil and gas are in demand in spite of climate change initiatives, due to low price, and ongoing reductions in emissions. Oil and gas will comprise most of the energy mix over the next 30 years, whilst enabling climate targets to be met, due to an increasing contribution from renewable energy. Recent technology has been highly successful using horizontal wells and hydraulic fracturing in oil and gas shales. This program shows natural gas exploration using 3D seismic, then horizontal drilling operations, which focus on avoiding environmental damage and protecting drinking water aquifers. Hydraulic fracture operations are conducted, with emphasis on safeguarding environmental aspects. Ideal for engineering students and as an introduction to the oil and gas sector.
