Tools for Math and Science
- Periodic Table There are several Periodic Tables available on line, but this
one is just like the one in your text book. You will also find
a printable version (save $5.00) and numerous other chemistry
tools and resources here.
- NIST Chemistry WebBook Every budding Chemist and Physicist is in constant need of numbers
of various sorts for elements and molecules. Here at the National
Institute of Standards and Technology you will find them all,along
with various formulae and other useful tools in an eminently searchable
database. you can search by name, formula, atomic number, molecular
weight and more here.
Dictionaries and a Thesaurus
- Astronomy Thesaurus This resource is available in English, French, German, Italian
and Spanish.
- The Dictionary of Cell Biology Everything that you need to know about Cell Biology is here in
a unique interactive format!
- The On-line Medical Dictionary Please Note: This reference is offered as a tool to help promote
the understanding of medical science. REMEMBER, one should NEVER
attempt to diagnose oneself from such a work. In almost every
case, accurate diagnosis cannot be determined solely from symptoms
but will require a variety of tests. PLEASE see your medical practitioner!
Search Engines
- National Library of Medicine The National Institute of Health offers two different searchable
medical databases to the public. MEDLINE is the classic search
engine for the fields of medicine, pharmacology, molecular biology
etc. Medline's database includes nearly every medical journal
published anywhere in the world. You WILL find the information
you seek here, but be sure to read the instructions FIRST - searching
medline is a learned skill that requires a planned strategy! You
can order articles that you need through the NIH if you do not
live close to a Medical School that will let you photocopy in
their library.
- Search Biology Web Servers at the Pasteur Institute and Molecular
Biology on the Web The Pasteur Institute is one of the most prestigious scientific
institutions in the world. their databases are open to the public
here.
- NASA This is a marvelous resource for Astronomy, with lots of Physics
and Biology thrown in for good measure. download all the pictures
you want. if you teach, nasa has years worth of science lesson
plans free for the taking. If you are a student - Ask a NASA Scientist
your questions about space - just make sure that you check the
archives first. This program has been ongoing for a number of
years so your question might already have been asked!
- Visit Platonic Realms for all your Math Questions. You will find
tutorials on almost any mathematics subject, very advanced mathematical
calculators and modeling tools, math history - anything you could
possibly want to know about Math!
- The History of Science documents scientific history from pre-Christian era times. Included
are biographies of nearly every famous scientist the world has
known. This site includes mathematics, psychology and a number
of other fields in their database.
Topic Specific Resources
- Cells is a wonderful website begun as a ninth grade class project.
If you are looking for good basic information about cells, their
structures and functions, this is the place to start. Not quite
as interactive as the dictionary above, but not as in-depth either.
- Dinosaurs is the definitive site for nearly everything that is known about
Dinosaurs.
- The Electronic Zoo is a marvelous site for all kinds of information for all age
levels regarding our animal friends. Very interactive!
- Everything About The Eye Studying Anatomy and Physiology? This site has everything that
you need to know about the eye and more!
- The Nine Planets: A Multimedia Tour of the Solar System is an exhaustive database of nearly everything that is known
about the solar system. Very interactive - lots of fun!
- Science Fair Projects is a comprehensive guide for educators, parents and students
contemplating a Science Fair Project. Complete with lots of ideas!
- The MLA Guide If you are writing a scientific research paper, you will most
likely be required to present it in MLA style. Here is the guide!
